Wednesday 3 January, in Melbourne

Inside the Melbourne State Library
We got up later than usual and went for breakfast in Soul Cafe. Then we spent quite a while sorting out our clothes for Singapore and the dirty washing from the past two weeks.

Using our Myki cards, Richard and I took a tram up to the Melbourne State Library and took the lift to the top to see the dome and the view of the reading room. Then we went downstairs to the exhibition of Melbourne people's history. Very interesting.

Barramundi at Jimmy Watson's - delicious

We took another tram to the University and walked from there to Lygon Street. While waiting for Matthew and Sarah, we looked in Readings bookshop.

Then at 1pm we all went for lunch at Jimmy Watson's famous restaurant. We had shared appetisers and I had barramundi with pak choi, plus we enjoyed some of the Jimmy Watson 2015 Chardonnay. The service was very attentive.

Inside the old Melbourne Jail it was gloomy

After lunch we visited Old Melbourne Jail and Magistrates's Court. Quite depressing conditions. Sarah waited outside. Afterwards we had a coffee or soft drink in Soul Cafe again before resting in our room.

In the evening we all strolled by the Yarra River before having a light Greek meal and Pinot Noir at Ena. The light over the skyline was very lovely.

Back in our hotel room we watched an old episode of Jonathan Creek - very good.
